Bulkeley Great House

Bulkeley Great House represents one of the most unique properties in Barbados. It is located in the centre of the island on 8 acres of fertile land surrounded by a woody landscape of mahogany trees and tropical flora.

This distinctive property has been a home to a number of prominent Barbadian families including Sir William Bulkeley, a Member of Parliament in the 1600’s. This historic home has seen many changes over the centuries, but what is special about it is that it has kept its old world charm.

The traditional covered verandah which surrounds the 12,000 sq ft main house has been recently extended on the eastern side to overlook a free-form swimming pool.  This pool has been constructed to give the appearance of a natural pond, with gently cascading waterfalls and a “sand-finished” bottom which extends beyond the water-level to form a shore.  The main house is spread over three levels.

Downstairs has an ample size kitchen with a casual dining area, a formal dining room, a formal living room and sitting area with a grand piano. All of these rooms lead out to the large verandah overlooking the expansive, beautifully landscaped tropical gardens and spectacular pool.  There is also an informal TV room and a powder room with an elegant mahogany staircase leading to the upper floor comprising of 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. In addition to the first and second floors, there is also a cellar space which provides a separate laundry area and room for storage. This great house could easily accommodate a large family and provide significant spaces for dining, entertaining and special occasions yet, in a peaceful surrounding offering complete privacy.

There is an additional guest cottage on the property and grooms quarters with 9 individual stables and 2 paddocks nearby.
